TASK
TASK3 - Game Design Document
1. Instruction
The goal of this task was to transform our Week 1 concept, "The Living
Thing," from a static design document into a fully functional game
prototype. This stage involved building the core "Reverse Horror" loop:
survival through possession, strategic scaring, and resource management
across three distinct environments.
Following the course requirements, we utilized Godot Engine for its
excellent handling of 2D-in-3D (2D-HD) visuals and Blender for creating the
immersive 3D environments of the manor.
2. Concept Choice & Refinement
Game Title: The Living Thing
Genre: Reverse Horror / Strategy Action
Core Hook: "You don't hide from the monster; you ARE the monster."
While our initial plan focused on a single room, we expanded the scope to a
three-act journey:
The Street: Introduction to basic survival and possession.
The Garden: Faster-paced movement with more complex hiding spots.
The Basement: High-intensity climax requiring item management.
Rationale for Visual Style: We opted for a 2D-HD style. The main character
and humans are 2D pixel-art sprites, while the world is 3D. This provides a
"storybook" depth while allowing us to use Blender for intricate environment
modeling.

REFLECTION
Developing the GDD was a joyful experience. It taught me that a great design document is more than just a blueprint—it is the soul of the game. Despite the stress of balancing mechanics and the heavy artistic workload, turning my imagination into a concrete plan was incredibly fulfilling.
