Lectures :

Week2(02/MAY/2024)

1. Introduction to basic composition.
FOCAL POINT-A key element to any good composition is a strong focal point.
SCALE & HIERARCHY-Scale is often used to help communicate hierarchy by drawing attention toward and away from certain elements.
BALANCE THE ELEMENTS-A good technique for mastering asymmetrical balance is to think of each element as having a ‘weight’ to it.
WHITE SPACE-helps your design to breathe.

2. Rules of Third.
Fig 1.0 Rules of Third
The Rule of Thirds is the process of dividing an image into thirds, using two horizontal and two vertical lines. This imaginary grid yields nine parts with four intersection points.

3. Golden Ratio.

Fig 1.1 Golden Ratio
Creating and appreciating a sense of beauty through harmony and proportion. When applied to design, the Golden Ratio provides a sense of artistry.
It's a determining dimensions of the layout. You can set your dimensions to 1:1.618 to apply the Golden Ratio

1. PRE-COMPOSITION #1

Fig 2.4

Fig 2.5
There was a feature in my magazine about Sherlock Holmes, so I wanted to make a collage with Sherlock Holmes as the theme, and I cut out the key items of the case that Sherlock Holmes investigated in the magazine and his big portrait to make a collage. I want to make the effect that Sherlock Holmes is surrounded by layers of cases he solved.

2. PRE-COMPOSITION #2

Fig 2.6
For this collage, I chose all the elements of the magazine about dark blue and water, and wanted to express the harmony of colors and the tranquility of dark blue.

3. PRE-COMPOSITION#3

Fig 2.7

The Collage Elements magazine has a retro feel to it, so I followed it and wanted to make a retro art collage.

4. PRE-COMPOSITION#4

Fig 2.8
This image was inspired by the previous one, I found all the items that matched the blue-green hue and wanted to express the feeling of crystal clear.

In the end, Mr.Yusoff advised me to choose the PRE-COMPOSITION#3
