Week10
Introduction to After Effects
Definition
o Adobe After Effects is a 2.5D animation software used for creating animation, visual effects, and motion picture compositing.
oIt is used in the production of films, TV shows, and web videos.
o This software is utilized in the post-production phase and offers hundreds of effects to manipulate imagery, allowing for the combination of video and image layers into the same scene.

Motion Graphics Animation
Approach
o After Effects uses a different approach to create movement.
o Motion graphics animation involves manipulating vector and rasterized art to create and tell a story.
o Physical-based media, such as photographs and videography, can also be integrated.

Transforming Images
o The process involves transforming still images (graphic elements and photography) into moving images.
o Photoshop serves as a platform for compositing layers.
o All layers should be arranged and renamed appropriately for organization and ease of animation in After Effects.

Animating Layers
o After Effects is a digital visual effects, motion graphics, and compositing application.
o It allows the import of various elements such as images, videos, vectors, and more.
o Layer elements must be organized and synchronized with external software platforms like Photoshop and Illustrator.
o After Effects files do not embed media but link to it.

Week11-14

SELF-TITLED

1. Idea Development

1. Write a biography about yourself

INTRO

My name is Liu Yitong. I'm from China. I'm 18 years old. I am studying for a bachelor's degree in creative media.

PARAGRAPH 1

What is your passion?

As for my hobbies, I like painting and computer games. I'm also passionate about designing my own characters and creating worldviews and stories for them. This may be due to the fact that I have been exposed to artworks since childhood, and it is also the reason why I choose to study design.

PARAGRAPH 2

What’s motivate you to achieve your dream?

My dream is to become a game planner in the future, so that the characters in my mind and on paper can come to life in the game. This is a very satisfying thing for me. It is also my love for games and design that has always inspired me to accomplish this dream.

SUMMARY

How do you want to visualize your dream into an artwork?

It was a bit difficult, but I wanted to make the style of the artwork more technical, interactive like a game, and full of Vaporwave style.

2. Write a statement about your work

INTRO

My work will be based on the biography I wrote, and I will use the form of art to tell everyone about my favorite style and hobbies.

PARAGRAPH 1

What is the concept behind it?

Based on my love of games, I want to design my poster into something similar to a computer web page or something with a similar style, preferably with characters I designed.

PARAGRAPH 2

What is the message you want people to understand it?

I hope you can see my passion for games and my dream of designing independent games in the future. And I hope it will be an interesting piece that will interest everyone who sees it.

SUMMARY

What is your motto/ quote?

Per aspera ad astra.(It meansThrough suffering to the stars. From my favorite game.)

PART 2: DESIGN DIRECTION (WEEK 11)
1. Create a digital poster based on your sketch

I chose a picture of me going out to play as the north background of this poster.

At the same time, I was struggling to figure out how to represent my dream of becoming a game designer in a poster. So I tried to build a small window similar to a pixel game and attached the game characters I had created to it.
Then I came up with the idea of using my knowledge of double exposure to add something about the game.

After adding the layer adjustment effect and changing the mode of the layer, I got some of the effects I wanted.

To tell the truth, I love the sketch1, I hope the teacher can choose the first one.
Fortunately, I will use the first poster for animation.
At first, I tried to get the wings to flap, but it never looked natural. But I kept the change after an experiment.
Fig.2.9 Process1
Then I started to adjust the movement of the window. At the same time, I inserted a GIF of the game character I designed. Because it was too much trouble for me to make repeated frame-by-frame animations, I chose to make GIF animations in Photoshop first and then insert them into Ae in segments.
Fig.2.10 Process2
I adjusted the window fault material. Since cutting out the green screen would have made the problem feel much less, I chose to just adjust the layer mode and keep the green screen in the video.
Finally, I chose the music from my favorite pixel game OMORI, White Space, for the soundtrack. This really fits my poster style!
First version video
Mr.Fauzi said that beside the portrait of consoles can adjust the transparency makes it not and as coincidence.
But I did it on purpose because I wanted it to look like there was overlap.

Feedback:

Week11
You may proceed with Sketch #2.The second sketch looks better composed.

Week12
You may proceed to animate the poster #1.In the animation, you can choose to add a fault effect to the window, or you can make the window float up and down.

Week13
That's a good composition. The layering is good. You may proceed to animate it.

Week14
Nice! that's a great work. Keep up the good work.
Beside the portrait of consoles can adjust the transparency makes it not and as coincidence.

Reflection:
This task self title makes me more recognize myself. I feel quite comfortable making static posters with Ps, but I am not very familiar with the animation of Ae, and I am not very skilled in operating the software to set the dynamic effects I want. Overall, it was an interesting and challenging task for me! I enjoyed it very much.
