After briefing of the class,We got our first taste of Photoshop and logged into our account in Adobe illustrator. Understand how to build your own blogger and join the right class group.

Week2(02/MAY/2024)

1. Introduction to basic composition.
FOCAL POINT-A key element to any good composition is a strong focal point.
SCALE & HIERARCHY-Scale is often used to help communicate hierarchy by drawing attention toward and away from certain elements.
BALANCE THE ELEMENTS-A good technique for mastering asymmetrical balance is to think of each element as having a ‘weight’ to it.
WHITE SPACE-helps your design to breathe.

2. Rules of Third.
Fig 1.0 Rules of Third
The Rule of Thirds is the process of dividing an image into thirds, using two horizontal and two vertical lines. This imaginary grid yields nine parts with four intersection points.

3. Golden Ratio.

Fig 1.1 Golden Ratio
Creating and appreciating a sense of beauty through harmony and proportion. When applied to design, the Golden Ratio provides a sense of artistry.
It's a determining dimensions of the layout. You can set your dimensions to 1:1.618 to apply the Golden Ratio

4. Composition framing & cropping
Introduction to Photoshop 2

Week 3 ( 07/MAY/2024)

1.Lasso Tool
The Lasso Tool allow you to draw and pinpoint specific areas of a document.

Fig 1.2 Lasso Tool

There are three different tool options: Lasso ,Polygonal Lasso  and Magnetic Lasso.
After that, we learned how to use the lasso tool in a video.

2.Pen Tool

Fig 1.3 Pen Tool

There are four ways to use the Pen Tool:Straight line paths,U shaped curves,Simple S curves and Complex S curves.

Fig 1.4Variation of Pen Tool

Next, we watched three videos to learn how to use the Pen Tool. Next, the pen tool was used to compare the lasso tool to analyze the commonality of the two.Although commonly used to make selections, the pen tool was not natively made as a “selection tool”.

3.Magic wand tool
The pen tool is also used to introduce the Magic Wand tool, which can be clicked and automatically selected for the object area.

4.Layering
Layers are different images stacked on top of each other. You can use each layer without affecting another one to make adjustments.

The advantage of using Layers is that you can save a Photoshop file with all the layers included. This means you can use layers for non-destructive editing.
Your adjustments in Photoshop will never destroy the original image.

Week 4 ( 14/MAY/2024)

·Adjustment layers
Fig.1.5 Adjustment layers
The Adjustment Layers in Photoshop are a group of a super useful, non-destructive image editing tools that add color and tonal adjustments to your image without permanently changing its pixels.
You can edit and discard your adjustments or restore your original image at any time.

INSTRUCTION

Practical

Exercise 1

Four of my favourite photoshop works:

Fig.2.0

Description:

Seeing this picture gave me a strong visual impact, this is the poster of the movie parasite. It uses an oblique composition that disrupts the sense of balance , gives me a sense of turbulence , The slanted picture is full of uncertainty and makes me feel nervous and hints at the content of the film. The contrast between warm and cold color also gives me a strong impact

Fig.2.1

Description:

This photographic work makes clever use of light and shadow to illustrate to us one thing — paying attention to animals while driving .The light and shade relationship gives me a strong visual impact.I love the design of the huge shadow of the deer in the headlights, and I am an animal advocate, andI was very impressed with the way this photo was handled, so I like it very much

Fig.2.2

Description:

The main object is the subway door, the color is slightly cold, giving me a strong sense of film, just echoing the theme of poster.  What’s more, I really like the symmetry of the composition.Poster font design is also very clever, the letter i is replaced by the subway door seam center, very design sense.

Fig.2.3

Description:

This is one of my favorite games, which is one of the reasons I love this poster so much. The warm sunrise contrasts sharply with the surrounding dark clouds, and the game's protagonist, Warrior link, stands backlit, giving me a very deep impression.

Exercise 2(WEEK 2:PRACTICAL COLLAGE ELEMENTS)

1. PRE-COMPOSITION #1

Fig 2.4

Fig 2.5
There was a feature in my magazine about Sherlock Holmes, so I wanted to make a collage with Sherlock Holmes as the theme, and I cut out the key items of the case that Sherlock Holmes investigated in the magazine and his big portrait to make a collage. I want to make the effect that Sherlock Holmes is surrounded by layers of cases he solved.

2. PRE-COMPOSITION #2

Fig 2.6
For this collage, I chose all the elements of the magazine about dark blue and water, and wanted to express the harmony of colors and the tranquility of dark blue.

3. PRE-COMPOSITION#3

Fig 2.7

The Collage Elements magazine has a retro feel to it, so I followed it and wanted to make a retro art collage.

4. PRE-COMPOSITION#4

Fig 2.8
This image was inspired by the previous one, I found all the items that matched the blue-green hue and wanted to express the feeling of crystal clear.

In the end, Mr.Yusoff advised me to choose the PRE-COMPOSITION#3
Fig 2.8.1 The final work

Exercise 3(WEEK 3:PRACTICAL COMPOSITING COLLAGE

1. COMPOSITION #1

Fig 2.0 COMPOSITION #1

2. COMPOSITION #2

Fig 2.1 COMPOSITION #2

3. COMPOSITION #3

Fig 2.2 COMPOSITION #3

In the end, Mr.Yusoff advised me to choose the COMPOSITION #1

Exercise 4(Week4: PRACTICAL DIGITAL COLLAGE)

1. WEEK 3 - PEN TOOL EXERCISE (BEST COMPOSITION)

Fig.2.0 WEEK 3 - PEN TOOL EXERCISE (BEST COMPOSITION)
DESCRIPTION:The digital collage was conceived using the rules of third. And proficiently use the pen tool and the magic wand tool in PS for cutting, selecting and pasting.

2.WEEK 4 (ADJUSTMENT LAYERS & FILTERS )

Fig.2.1 WEEK 4 (ADJUSTMENT LAYERS & FILTERS )
DESCRIPTION:In this digital collage, I've adjusted the hue, brightness, and hue separation of the people and rubber plant layers at the very bottom.I adjusted the color balance of the cyan typewriter, and I liked the color so much that I didn't change its hue drastically, just made it look orange.I didn't adjust the layer of the building at the very top, because it looks like it stands out more as the visual center.

FEEDBACK

Week2
That's a great series of works! You may glue your PRE-COMPOSITION #2 and bring it to class next week.
Week3
You may choose Composition #1 to be edit for the Week 4 exercise. But remember to remove the adjustment layer, that needs to be done next week.
Week4
The adjustments weren't obvious enough, so I added more adjustment layers to create a completely different look.

REFLECTION

This project was a lot of fun, I had never tried collage before this because I thought it was tedious at times, but this project proved me wrong. I learned a lot about the selection tools: each lasso tool works in a different way, learned about the magic wand tool (which is only suitable for specific situations), and as for the pen tool, it was very interesting to see how it works. It was a lot of fun creating these collages. I utilized the images provided to come up with different collage concepts. I also learned to utilize the golden ratio and rule of thirds in my work. Learned a lot about design principles.
